Ipswich Police and Fire Departments Respond to Possible Drowning

Police Chief Paul Nikas and Fire Chief Paul Parisi report that the Ipswich Police and Fire Departments responded to a possible drowning at Pavilion Beach.

On Sunday, July 31, at approximately 5:17 p.m., Ipswich Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a person in distress in the water at Pavilion Beach.

That individual was pulled from the water and aided by a retired Ipswich firefighter and off-duty Somerville firefighter, who do not want to be identified, before being transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The individual was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The incident is under investigation by the Ipswich Police Department and the Essex District Attorney’s Office.
