Don’t Stop with Your Clock

Sure, you lost an hour early Sunday morning.  And the move to Daylight Savings Time has you busy changing all your clocks and watches by an hour.  But the extra few minutes you take to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors could be the most important few minutes you take all year.

Consider the statistics:

  • 70 percent of fire fatalities occur in homes without working smoke detectors.
  • Working smoke detectors can reduce your chance of dying in a fire by 50 percent.
  • Some 890 lives could be saved each year if everyone in the US kept their smoke detectors operable.

So take this opportunity to not just make sure your time pieces are accurate, but to be sure that your home is safe for you and your loved ones.

Happy Spring from the Ipswich Fire Department.
