IPSWICH — Lt. Jonathan Hubbard reports that the Ipswich Police Department is investigating after a woman allegedly broke into a car, then attempted to cash a check using the victim’s identity.
At 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, Ipswich Police learned of a past break-in to a motor vehicle, which had been parked at the Dow Brook parking area next to White Farms. Through an initial investigation, officers determined that the victim’s wallet containing credit cards and her driver’s license had been stolen from inside her unlocked vehicle.
On Thursday, May 20, Ipswich Police learned that a female suspect had attempted to cash a check at Brookline Bank in Newton using the stolen identification and a debit card, which were confiscated by the bank.
Ipswich Police continued their investigation and determined the suspect was a white female wearing a dark wig and driving a silver Kia SUV with Massachusetts plate number 47G250.
Detectives identified the tactics used by the suspect closely resemble the ones used by the so-called Felony Lane Gang, which is known to target women for identity theft.
Ipswich Police are continuing to investigate this incident in conjunction with Massachsetts State Police, as well as Newton and Wayland Police.
Residents are asked to call Ipswich Police detectives at 978-356-4343 (extension 4104) if they see the suspect’s vehicle in the area. Ipswich Police also wish to remind residents to protect their belongings by locking their car doors when leaving their vehicle unattended, as well as refraining from leaving valuables inside their cars.
