IPSWICH — The following is a statement from Ipswich Police Chief Paul Nikas regarding the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial:
“Yesterday a jury found Derek Chauvin guilty on all counts, holding him responsible for murdering George Floyd nearly a year ago.
“Though this was a positive step, work to address systemic racism in all layers of society needs to continue to ensure that all are treated equally and humanely. We stand with all Americans who are working to put an end to the systemic racism that’s long plagued our nation.
“The men and women of the Ipswich Police Department understand that the trust of our community is foundational to the work we do. We will continue to explore and adopt all necessary policies and procedures to ensure that we are serving our community in the fairest, most equitable way.”
