Ipswich Fire Department Extinguishes Attic Fire

IPSWICH — Chief Andy Theriault reports that the Ipswich Fire Department extinguished a one-alarm attic fire last night.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, Ipswich Fire responded to a multi-family home at 34 Mitchell Road for a report of a fire in the attic. Engine 2, Lt. Pat Dingle, Firefighter Kendall Buhl and Firefighter Warren Grant were the first to arrive on scene, and were later joined by Engine 4, Truck 1, Car 1 and Squad 2.

No one was injured in the fire and no one inside the home when first responders arrived on scene.

Ipswich firefighters conducted an aggressive interior attack inside the home’s attic, which allowed them to limit the spread of the fire and minimize damage to the home. Crews had cleared the scene shortly before 11:30 p.m. It is believed the fire caused approximately $5,000 in damage.

Ipswich Fire also extinguished an attic fire at the same residence on April 15.

Mutual aid was provided at the scene by the Rowley Fire Department, and station coverage was supplied by the Essex, Topsfield and Hamilton Fire Departments as well.

The fire remains under investigation by the Ipswich Fire and Police Departments as well as the State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
